Safety in Turning

The characteristics of all parts in the machine must be taken in consideration to avoid transfer of forces to the exterior. As a result of higher speeds, there were higher temperatures during processing. High temperatures caused inaccuracies in the machine. Since the late Seventies, attempts have been made to reduce this effect by using cooling lubricants. These lubricants have reduced the chip temperatures and thus the processing temperature considerably. They also created a new challenge to the casing of such a machine. Continuous temperature increase and continuously growing corrosiveness of coolants are the reasons why all media become more and more corrosive. The turning machine is dangerous due to its high masses and high speeds. For this reason, the safety pane is the most important part of the casing, since the operator must view the machining process.

The safety pane must have an adequate design and adequate characteristics to guarantee good transparency and safety under all these conditions.
